Terribly, we live an unfair world where circumstances may arise to present anyone an unexpected fate. Riamundo was a victim of such situation. The dictatorship government that rattled Brazil in the late 1970s spelt some doom for him, making him become homeless in his home country. This was when he had moved from his birthplace to Sao Paulo. Thus, the 77 years old has been subjected to the tragedy of homelessness for 35 years on the streets of Brazil.
Prior to this time, Raimundo Arrudo Sobrinho was a book dealer who writes poetry and short stories. However, since the turn of tides, he still never allowed the tragic situation rob him of his talents and passion for writing. He writes to keep his sanity on the street even when no one would read them. Just like many other writer in the world, he always hoped his writing would get in the right hand someday, and maybe get published to inspire others. But it appeared the slimmest of chances that any publisher would take a chance on a homeless author. He wasn’t still discouraged as he continued to practice his arts and pursue his passion, not knowing it would take him out of his slum.
Life finally gave Raimundo an unexpected surprise. As always he sat on the streets of Brazil where he is famous to hold so tightly to his scruffy pieces of papers. The people never had an idea the papers contained poetry and stories from the ocean of Raimundo’s heart, emotions and imaginations. But life smiled back at him as a woman named Shalla discovered he is always with pen in his hands and so many papers surrounding him. Her curiosity piqued and she was so interested in knowing what he does with them. From that day, she always visit him.
Raimundo probably believing in himself to have met a friend in Shalla honored her with a piece of his poem. That probably ended up being the best of texts she has read in a long while. Really shocked and surprised with the content quality, she decided to share the poem with the world, thus creating a Facebook page that has since garnered more than 100,000 followers. What is more incredible was that sharing Raimundo’s poems allow more people to look for him, give him gifts and encourage him to do more.
In a mix of events, one of the followers of the Facebook page created for his poem was his missing brother. He contacted Raimundo in no time and invited him to move over to his home. He was given a lifetime treat and kingly welcome. Now he lives a better life and is no more homeless. It is unbelievable how his piece of extraordinary creativity hand him a place to rest his head in safety. Many video documentary of Raimundo has since existed on the internet, urging people not to lose track on their dreams no matter what the situation is.
