Everyone probably love fishes and seafood. The striking thing is that Tilapia is one of the commonest seafood types on our dining table and aquatic environments. Admittedly, seafood are also great sources of nutrients ranging from proteins to needed vitamins in the human body. Several reports also have it that Tilapia is the most popularly and commonly reared fish in America. This is for its wide acceptance and affordability. However, we might all have to stop eating the fish now that experts are warning consumers to stay clear of its consumption.
Scholars from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine have agreed that Tilapia has great nutrients. However, their reports contained that Omega-6 fatty acid contents in the popular fish is much and very unfriendly to human health. It was said that most fishes contain Omega-3 fatty acids to give most significant benefits to man, including reducing the risks of Alzheimer condition. But the omega-3 fatty acids in Tilapia has been reported very low, hence making consumption detrimental to human health. In fact, it is worse that the quantity of Omega-6 (a not so beneficial fatty acids to the body) in tilapia is higher than in hamburger or bacon.
Many people stand a risk of being affected by the consumption of Tilapia since it is the second most artificially produced fish in the world. It is confirmed hardy, hence can eat about anything. This makes the fish good for farmer’s profit but really bad for consumers’ health. Farmers have to spend less on production capital and they would probably make more money from sales to consumers. The worst is that farmers usually feed Tilapia with pig and chicken poops. They are equally usually stuffed with antibiotics to genetically modify their growth.
Aside from Alzheimer disease, it has been reported that Tilapia can cause cancer because it has the capacity to carry up to ten times volumes of carcinogens as other fishes. This means that it can survive with consumption of pesticides and industrial grade chemicals. Dioxins, a chemical component which has been greatly linked with development and progression of cancer has also been discovered in tilapia. What is worse is that the human body doesn’t even flush out dioxins in 7-11 years. Why then would one continue to eat a fish like Tilapia at his own risks? You need no one to tell you stop eating the fish ASAP after now.
